Gelbe Blätter bei Cannabis

Yellow leaves on cannabis

Diagnosis and Quick Help

You've put a lot of effort into your three legal plants, but suddenly you notice the leaves are turning yellow? Don't panic! Yellow cannabis leaves are a common signal from your plant that something is wrong. Often, the problem can be solved with a few targeted actions. In this guide, you'll learn how to find the cause and save your harvest.

1. Nitrogen Deficiency: The Classic

Nitrogen is the engine for growth. If it's missing, the older, lower leaves will turn uniformly yellow first. The plant draws the remaining nitrogen up into the new shoots.

The Solution: Check your fertilization schedule. Use high-quality organic fertilizers (like BioBizz Bio-Grow) to keep nitrogen levels stable during the growth phase.

2. Incorrect Watering Behavior

Both overwatering and underwatering lead to yellow leaves. With too much water, the roots "suffocate" (lack of oxygen); with too little, the cell structures dry out.

Pro Tip: Use the finger test. Is the soil dry up to the second knuckle? Only then water again. Also, ensure holes in the pot bottom to prevent waterlogging.

3. pH Imbalance (Nutrient Lockout)

If the pH of your irrigation water is too high or too low, the plant can no longer absorb nutrients, even if they are present in the soil. This is called "lockout."

  • Ideal Soil Value: pH 6.0 – 6.5
  • Solution: Test your water with a pH meter and adjust it if necessary with pH-Down or pH-Up.

4. Light Stress and Light Burn

If the yellowing primarily occurs at the very top tips, your lamps are probably too close to the plants. This leads to bleaching of the chlorophyll.

If your leaves look whitish or yellow and burnt at the tips, you should definitely read our detailed guide on light stress and light burn.

5. Pests & Diseases

Spider mites, fungus gnats, or root rot can weaken the plant so severely that the leaves turn yellow. Regularly check the underside of the leaves for small spots or webs.

When is "Yellow" normal?

In the late flowering phase, it's quite natural for the plant to turn its leaves yellow. It puts all its energy into the buds – this is the so-called "autumn look" and no cause for concern!
